The Bad Its battery life and performance are just fine.

The Bottom Line If $ 500 is too much for a phone, the P20 Lite Huawei phone is a solid option that costs less than $ 300.

P20 Huawei Phones are her best yet, with stunning designs and photographic skills that she is envious of. But there is one family member you may not have met yet.

The Huawei P20 Lite, or Nova 3e, as it is known in countries such as Australia, does not have a camera for its siblings, but it is a strong mix of capable and affordable. It looks great, has enough power to work reliably outside of intense 3D games and costs just $ 399. It’s more expensive in the UK, where it sells for £ 329, although the cheaper price in Australia turns out to be $ 295. Unfortunately, Huawei The P20 Lite will not be sold in the US, as in other Huawei phones

The P20 Lite is fierce competition for phones such as the Moto G6 Motorola’s great new budget handset. The G6 has a cleaner operating system and costs a little cheaper in the US and UK ($ 249, £ 229, $ 399), but the Moto G6’s design isn’t as modern as the P20 Lite.

It’s not without compromise, but the P20 Lite Huawei is a terrific deal for anyone who thinks even that OnePlus 6 too expensive phone.

The Huawei P20 Lite is not light in appearance

Although it’s in the name, the Huawei P20 Lite does not bear much resemblance to the Huawei P20 or uniform brawnier P20 Pro the back of which has three rear cameras. This is a very own beast – and a royal one at that.

The P20 Lite has a large 5.84-inch, 2,280×1,080-pixel display. It’s light on the panel, like most premium phones today, with just enough to raise the top edge and the Huawei logo below the screen. The phone comes with responsive face recognition, which is a reasonable touch for an inexpensive device, but keep in mind that unlocking your face is more convenient than safe. For example, you will not be able to use this to verify mobile payments, unlike the fingerprint reader on the back panel.

The phone’s backing is similarly nice looking, and with a glossy reflective back it looks like phone bullhorn Honest . Hidden antenna lines and a metal fingerprint scanner also add to the design. I had a Klein Blue, which is extremely blue, though it also comes in pink Sakura and Black North.

Simply put, this phone looks more expensive than it is. The software is less noticeable. The phone runs EMUI 8.0, Huawei uses the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, and while it’s good, it’s definitely not as clean and sleek as the near-pure Android you’ll see on Moto phones.

Huawei’s P20 Lite is heavy on features

Power and battery

The P20 Lite is an extraordinary budget phone, but it’s still a budget phone. This means that compromises are needed, and the Kirin 659 processor is mostly where you feel it.

This is not a slow handset, but there are times of lag. Going from reading a news app to defining a googling word to checking a message on Facebook and then returning to a news app, for example, is a command sequence that will probably shut up your phone for at least a couple of milliseconds. Also, the sound from the program continued several times, even when I closed it.

There is also enough power for most 3D games. A game like Asphalt 8 works fine, though larger games that require more RAM will not work optimally. For example, in PUBG I had to play in the lowest graphic settings.

More annoying is the battery life. You will get a full day of use from its 3000 mAh battery, but not much more. We spent just under 11 hours in our video cycle battery testing, which is fine. The Moto X4 , which costs about the same, lasted 12 and a half hours. It went better than the Moto G6 in 9 hours, though.

The P20 Lite is good for the price

The P20 family is a house built by cameras. Pro is the first phone to have a triple rear camera setup that offers an impressive 3x optical zoom. He also had the crazy low-light features he shared with regular P20 phone . The P20 Lite is not completely cut from one fabric.

It’s good, sometimes very good for the price, but no great like the rest of the family.

The rear has a 16MP, 2MP dual camera that delivers crisp, crisp images. The latest Huawei phones have built-in AI cameras that tell you what you’re trying to photograph and optimize your settings accordingly, but don’t. Not a huge decline, but it would be good. Decorate, as always, here.

Photos look great in ideal light.

Sometimes the depth-of-field effect works really well.

And other times it’s not as seamless.

I was impressed by the vibrancy of colours in night photos. But otherwise, it’s average in low light.

The P20 Lite comes with bokeh-style portrait mode, a depth-of-field feature that applies to many midrange and budget phones, but is nevertheless appreciated. This is not perfect because you will notice that it is trying to distinguish between what should be the foreground and background, but it is luxury at that price.

At night, the phone is good – not good, but not terribly bad – in terms of what to expect. Selfie wise, the 16-megapixel front arrow is more decent, but it’s not fair to expect much more.
