With its low price tag of $ 240 and numerous connectivity options, the 23-inch Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD is a great choice if you are selling an HDTV in disguise. Its gaming performance is on par with the Samsung PX2370, but its colors appear dim when compared to movies. In addition, the 2333HD has a tendency to press green in test screens, and it has a fairly large amount of backlight that occurs on dark screens. Even with its drawbacks, the 2333HD has a fairly low price tag and enough features to recommend it.

Design and features
The Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD has a design that closely resembles the Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW. Samsung has not developed the 2333HD with ergonomic parameters such as screen rotation and height adjustment, offering only a 15 degree tilt. Sitting at the desktop, Samsung has 2.6 inches between the bottom of the screen and the desktop. On its left and right sides is a 0.75-inch Samsung glossy panel. Samsung oval stand stand measuring 12 inches wide by 8.75 inches wide. When knocking on the sides, the 2333HD fluctuates noticeably; however, we have never felt that it could threaten destruction given its wide span. At the bottom of the Samsung panel is a light gray colored Samsung logo.

The Samsung panel is about 1.8 inches thick and extends another 0.9 inches behind it to include a ventilation system, backlight and connectivity options. Based on these measurements, the display panel is about 2.7 inches thick. The full width of the panel is 22.1 inches, which is roughly the average for a 23-inch monitor. At the bottom of its shell is a clear fiberglass “lip” that is about half an inch in height. When the monitor is on, the blue LED emits from the panel and reflects off the lip, creating a nice effect. Instead of using a glossy screen, Samsung decided to use a matte finish on the panel. On the back of the display are four openings for attaching the display to the wall in the VESA style.

The 2333HD includes two HDMI ports, a VGA port, a DVI port, a component port, and a coaxial antenna or cable connection. It also includes a port for normal audio and digital audio output. Most ports are located on the back of the display in the lower right corner of the panel and facing back. This placement style facilitates access to each connection. On the left side of the monitor is a small door that closes the second HDMI port and the headphone jack.

The monitor display array is located on the right side of the panel and consists of the Menu button, the Source button, the Up and Down buttons and the Plus and Minus buttons. Trying to use an array to navigate the screen is an unpleasant experience: the buttons are not pointing forward and there is no on-screen menu next to the buttons that point you. It was easiest for us to navigate the screen using the remote control. The settings are very similar to a typical HDTV. The Image setting includes controls for brightness, contrast, sharpness and color temperature, and its sound settings include presets for music, movie and language, as well as an audio equalizer.

16: 9 aspect ratio Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD supports 1 920×1,080 pixels full HD resolution. This continues the trend when monitor providers are moving to a 16: 9 aspect ratio of 16:10, as high-definition content – including 1080p movies – can fit on a screen of 1,920×1,080 pixels in fullscreen without stretching the image.

Performance
We tested the Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD connected to the computer through its DVI connection. The display earns a composite score of 90 for CNET lab-based display tests, which is equal to LG Flatron M237WD 90 and Samsung SyncMaster P2370HD score – 93. In our gray scale tests, we found that the 2333HD couldn’t help distinguish the low gray from the true black that is, the dark details on the screen are likely to be lost. We also noticed some color tracking errors as a green tint in our color accuracy tests, so don’t expect the 2333HD to be super accurate. In addition, our 2333HD dark screen test showed a very noticeable amount of illumination, which is backlit, far more than the Samsung SyncMaster PX2370 showed.

The 2333HD reached 245 candles. Per square meter – much lower than the 344 cd / m2 XL2370, but on par with 245 cd / m2 PX2370. As a result, the XL2370 also has a higher contrast ratio – thanks to a larger peak white measurement – than 2333HD: 1,008: 1 to 930: 1, respectively.

We used the pre-installed 2333HD Entertainment software to check “Kill Bill: Volume 1” on DVD and several 1080p movies from Microsoft’s WMV HD Show. Compared to the deep and full colors of the PX2370, the 2333HD provides colors that just don’t pop.

We looked at World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament 3 and did not see any sign of lagging inputs or any shootings or ghosts during high-speed traffic. We tested both games in a pre-installed entertainment program. Despite the fact that its film has suffered a bit, the quality of its game quality in color is the same as the quality of the Samsung PX2370.

The optimum viewing angle for a monitor is usually directly in front of it, about a quarter of the screen down from the top. From this angle, you view the colors and gamut by destination. Most monitors are not considered in any other angle. The image quality at sub-optimal angle depends on the type of panel. Most monitors use TN panels that are too bright or too dark on parts of the screen when viewed from sub-optimal angles. The Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD uses a TN panel, and viewed from the side or bottom, we perceived the screen to be approximately 5 inches from the center. Of course, when viewed from the optimum angle, we had no problems.

When we turned the built-in speakers to their highest volume, we didn’t hear any sound distortion.
