Samsung PX2370

Due to its angular appearance, the Samsung PX2370 is not as sexy as the XL2370. Samsung did not consider placing the display on the PX2370; its on-screen menu is inferior to the XL2370’s display and makes menu navigation less fluid. Samsung also gave the PX2370 a lower maximum brightness level than its XL2370 display. However, Samsung has provided the PX2370 with two key improvements over the XL2370: better movie playback performance and plenty of useful OSD options.

When playing a movie, the PX2370 displays colors more accurately than the XL2370, and it has an on-screen display with more useful features – including one that we’ve never seen on the monitor. Design and features
The 23-inch PX2370 is a sequel to Samsung’s successful SyncMaster XL2370, which it released in 2009. The PX2370 has a more angular appearance than the XL2370, with sharper angles and sharper, well-defined edges, as opposed to the smoother XL2370, rounded corners. The PX2370 is 0.75 inches deep, slightly thicker than the much thinner 0.6-inch panel on the XL2370. The PX2370 has a 0.9-inch size that is shorter than the XL2370’s 1.1-inch panel and, like the XL2370, has a transparent plastic cover that covers its outer edge. The full width of the PX2370 is 21.9 inches, which is about 0.5 inches shorter than the XL2370.

The PX2370’s screen has a matte finish and its neck, which shares a similar design with the XL2370, is one of the most aesthetically unique designs we’ve ever seen. The neck is made of transparent glass; however, the PX2370 does not contain bluish crystals at the bottom of the neck, as does the XL2370, which makes the PX2370’s neck look simple enough. The display power button is at the bottom of the panel; it is a 1.7-inch semicircle with a white LED light that glows when the display is turned on. 9.1 inch round foot rest. It fluctuates considerably when struck from the sides, but we believe it is less likely to tip over than the XL2370, in part because it weighs 8.76 pounds, which is about 2 pounds heavier than the XL2370.

The bottom panel is 3.8 inches from the desktop, about an inch and a half higher than the XL2370. As with the XL2370, the height of the screen is not adjustable, and portrait mode does not allow the screen to rotate or rotate. The ability to tilt the screen back 15 degrees is the only ergonomic feature.

With the PX2370, Samsung includes the same connection options as the XL2370, including DVI-D, HDMI, as well as analog and digital audio output. All display connections are located at the back of the display, at the bottom of the middle of the display panel. Ports are pointing backwards, not downwards, as on most monitors. Unlike the XL2370, Samsung did not redesign the PX2370 to a monitor, making it easier to access.

The XL2370 has enabled an on-screen menu array at the bottom right of the panel, but Samsung is taking a different approach to the PX2370. The buttons on the PX2370 are located vertically along the back left of the monitor, so they are invisible to the front. This makes OSD navigation not as simple or intuitive as it was on the XL2370. It would be more useful to have buttons on the front, so it is clearer which button you press.

The OSD button array consists of the Menu button, the Up and Down buttons, the Enter button and the Auto button. The up and down buttons also double according to the brightness and the custom shortcut button, respectively. Its image settings consist of brightness, contrast and sharpness. You can also set the color tone to Cool, Normal, Warm or Custom, allowing you to change the attributes of red, green and blue separately. There are four presets: Custom, Standard, Game, Cinema, and Dynamic Contrast. Each preset changes the color temperature or brightness of the display according to the task you are performing.

Samsung provides the PX2370 with some “magic” features that the XL2370 did not provide. The first is Magic Lux, the company name given to the PX2370 ambient light sensor. Based on the amount of ambient light in the room, the PX2370 automatically adjusts the brightness to the “optimum” level. There are three levels of light sensitivity: low, medium and high. When turned on, the brightness of the monitor will immediately decrease to compensate for light (or lack of light) in the room; however, moving from a bright room to a completely dark room, we only noticed a very subtle change in brightness. In fact, this change was so subtle that we had to use our color meter to determine that the brightness of the display had changed at all. This is a useful feature if you want to limit eye strain.

Next – Magic Eco is an energy-saving feature that allows you to set the brightness level to 100, 75 or 50 percent.

In the multimonitor settings, Magic Return changes all windows and the Windows toolbar from the secondary monitor to the primary monitor when the power on the secondary monitor is lost or simply switched off. However, the function does not shift focus from secondary to secondary if the primary is off. Using Windows Vista, we found that after shifting the focus, if we maximized the window, that window would also cover the toolbar until we slightly dragged the toolbar. Also, when using it, sometimes the windows we expected to open on the primary monitor would be opened instead on the secondary monitor. This does not cause any particular problems, but we hope it will get some improvement in future iterations.

Although moving the OSD buttons to the back of the case allows the front to retain its pristine appeal, we lose some of the functional elegance that the XL2370 had. Although the PX2370 buttons are perfectly matched to the respective menu functions, the fact that we do not see the buttons for all intents and purposes makes the menu navigation less intuitive than we would like. Our advantage would be that the buttons are displayed on the front like the intuitive Dell screen seen on the U2710.

The on-screen menu also has the ability to set the monitor refresh rate from Slow to Fast to Faster. However, when we adjusted this setting, we didn’t notice a difference in performance.

The Samsung PX2370 display has a 16: 9 aspect ratio and supports a native Full HD resolution of 1 920×1,080 pixels. This continues the trend of suppliers of monitors moving to 16: 9 aspect ratio of 16:10, as high definition content – including 1080p movies – can fit on a screen of 1 920×180 pixels in full screen without stretching the image.

Performance
We tested the Samsung PX2370 by connecting it to a computer through its DVI connection. The PX2370 earned a score of 97 on CNET lab-based display tests, improving the XL2370 96. The PX2370 did a better job of distinguishing very dark gray from black than the XL2370; however, unlike the XL2370, the PX2370 is oversaturated with a very light gray color. In addition, the PX2370 transmits a little less light through its screen than the XL2370 during our dark screen test. Overall, both monitors performed similarly to the tests, the PX2370 has a slight advantage in many tests.

The PX2370 reaches 246 candles. Per square meter, which is much lower than the 344 cd / m2 XL2370. As a result, the XL2370 also achieved a higher contrast ratio – thanks to a larger peak white measurement – than the PX2370; 1,008: 1 to 948: 1 respectively.

We used Cinema PX2370’s preinstalled software to check “Kill Bill: Volume 1” on DVD, as well as several 1080p movies from Microsoft’s WMV HD Show. Both in the Kill Bill movies and at 1080p, we found that the PX2370’s colors were more accurate and brighter than the XL2370’s. On the side, the red on the XL2370 looked closer to the orange compared to the deeper red we saw on the PX2370 in the same scene.

Playing in World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament 3, we didn’t see any sign of delayed entry, streaks or ghosts as we were moving fast. We found that the PX2370 and XL2370 looked almost identical when playing games. However, thanks to its Magic Angle feature, the PX2370 has the advantage of viewing from other angles.

The optimum viewing angle for the monitor is usually directly in front, about a quarter of the way down from the top of the screen. At this angle, you view the colors and gamut correction as intended by the manufacturer. Most monitors are not considered in any other angle. The image quality at sub-optimal angle depends on the type of panel. Most monitors use TN panels that are too bright or too dark on parts of the screen when viewed from sub-optimal angles. The Samsung PX2370 uses a TN panel, and when viewed from the side or bottom, we perceive the screen to darken about 6 inches from the center.

Magic Angle mode prevents the screen from dimming at a specific angle. Magic Angle has four settings: Tilt Back 1, Tilt Back 2, Stand and Side. Switching to each mode will improve the screen brightness when viewing the monitor from this angle. For example, after switching to Lean Back 2 mode and sitting back on a chair to play the game, the screen does not darken nearly as much, and as a result, the details of the game can still be seen, causing you irreparable damage to the spine.

In our power consumption tests, the Samsung PX2370 has a 25.01W power / default ratio, which is 5W lower than the 30.09W XL2370. With a calibrated brightness of 200 cd / m2, the PX2370 consumes about 20 watts compared to the 21-watt XL2370. However, in standby mode, the forces where the contests are won.
