Is Samsung Chromebook Plus (V2) good for office

Laptops

The Good The Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 adds a handy secondary camera and a more powerful processor than its predecessor, which adds more value to this premium Chromebook. The two-in-one design and built-in handle also make it more useful than the average luxury Chromebook.

The Bad While it’s not overpriced for what you get, the $ 500 price tag for a Chromebook is high, there’s no HDMI output (you’ll need a USB-C key), and the keyboard doesn’t have a backlight.

The Bottom Line Samsung’s Chromebook Plus V2 may be more valuable than your average Chromebook, but its design and improved performance compared to the latest generation model allow you to work more with Chrome OS and Android than the lower variants.

Chromebooks – Google Chrome-based laptops – are typically designed for accessibility, making the term “premium Chromebook” something of an oxymoron. In fact, market research firm NPD Group identifies any Chromebook, which is $ 400 or more, as a premium, which is the starting price that is considered “budget” for Windows laptops and, well, does not exist for Macs.

According to NPD, Samsung is a leader in the premium Chromebook market, and by looking at the updated Chromebook Plus, it’s easy to see why. While some may pay $ 500 for a Chromebook, Samsung does your best to improve the design, build quality, and features than you would find in the cheap. (There are no official prices in the UK or Australia yet, but this price is around £ 375 or US $ 660.)

The Chromebook Plus V2 is a two-in-one, meaning you can use it as a laptop or flip the screen 360 degrees and use it as a tablet. Or you can use it in a video chat tent, or set it up as a kiosk for watching movies or giving presentations. Essentially, it gives you the flexibility to do more with this Chromebook than the typical clamshell design.

Two-in-one design makes even more sense when you consider Plus support for Android apps through Google Play, as well as apps from the Chrome Web Store. This means that if applications like Microsoft Office or SketchBook AutoDesk are important to your work, you can use Android versions on this Chromebook.

Not all applications are optimized for the larger screen, so if you are a must-have application, you should first ask the developer. There are also apps like Facebook for which you just have better use the web interface than the Android version.

Sufficient performance for most tasks

Samsung has released a slower Arm-based processor found in the 2017 model for a better Intel Celeron 3965Y processor. This Celeron is still low class, but it keeps the system feeling smart for both Android and web applications. However, keep in mind that with 4GB of memory, users who like to work with multiple programs and browser windows with many tabs will slow it down.

The new processor did not damage the battery at all. It actually made the situation worse We reviewed the 2017 Chromebook Pro , lasts 9 hours 33 minutes on our streaming video test. It’s with a 12.2-inch 1 920×1200 pixel display that is set to 50 percent of its full brightness of 300 bolts.

In addition to the updated processor, Samsung has placed above the keyboard an f1.9 camera, a 13MP autofocus camera, and a 1MP front camera at the top of the display. It’s an OK camera – your phone’s camera is probably the best – and maybe it’s not a feature that everyone needs, but for students who need to take quick video for a project, or for professionals who want to take a quick photo in the workplace , an additional high resolution camera will be appreciated.

Finishing touches

Pair a new camera with a small handle without a Plus V2 battery tucked away, and you can quickly snap photos for work, school or social sharing. You can use a pen to write or draw on the screen, sign documents, or easily capture specific areas of the screen simply by drawing a box around it.

Alongside the handle on the sides, you’ll find a microSD card slot, so you’ll have more storage when you need it, plus two USB-C ports for power, data, and 4K display control, a USB-A port (yes you don’t need keys for everything) and a 3.5mm headphone jack and microphone jack. The volume controls and power button are also on the side, so they are available in tablet mode.

Samsung Chromebook PlusV2 is a premium Chrome 2-in-1 for less

About the only thing that feels a little less than the premium is the keyboard. The keyboard feels small and there aren’t many keys, which can make the overall typing experience uncomfortable until you’re comfortable with the feeling. It wasn’t a highlight that would be a good price, but at least Samsung put some spill protection under it.

The touchpad is small but works well. Of course, you can use the touch screen instead if you want. You can even long press on the text to highlight and select it just like on the touch screen of your phone or tablet.

At 1.3 kg, it is light enough for daily travel, and since it charges the USB-C port, you can charge its battery from a multi-purpose power bank instead of carrying its power adapter. The metal lid and plastic case feel nicer than the cheaper whole plastic Chromebook. However, this makes it a bit heavy and you will have to hold the body when lifting the lid.

Best experience on a Chromebook

With its two-in-one design, extra new processor performance, an optional high-resolution camera, and a built-inSamsung Chromebook PlusV2, it’s worth the extra cost to get the most out of Google Chrome. Or at least more than you would a typical lower-end Chromebook.
