Is Dell SP2208WFP safe for home

Monitors

The Good Amazing overall performance; aggressive prices; VGA, DVI and HDMI ports; added bonuses include USB ports and a webcam; stable base.

The Bad The stand does not allow you to adjust height or turn; vertical viewing angle is limited; glossy screen cover is not the best choice for office use.

The Bottom Line The Dell SP2208WFP is a versatile 22-inch display monitor that delivers exceptional overall performance and pleasing design at a price that is hard to beat.

8.5 Overall

Editor’s Note: Although the 22-inch Dell SP2208 is still a great monitor, we think the 22-inch HP LP2275 is the best price, and to avoid confusion, we are choosing Dell editors because we prefer only one editor selection per sub-category. In this case, 22-inch models.

The Dell SP2208WFP offers the winning combination of high performance and low cost. This 22-inch widescreen LCD is great for lab testing, and delivers outstanding DVD and gaming results. It provides a useful feature set that supports standard VGA and DVI video connections as well as HDMI. Above the display is also a webcam for easy video conferencing and two USB ports conveniently located on the side and two more tucked under them. Priced at $ 299, it’s hard to argue with the Dell SP2208WFP – perhaps just its glossy screen coverage. In a bright room, you may find that it gains too much glare and reflection when used as a direct indicator of productivity. But for boarding and other scenarios where it will double as a performance and entertainment experience, we strongly recommend the Dell SP2208WFP.

Design
The Dell SP2208WFP boasts a clean and simple design. The 0.75-inch silver bezel frames the display, which expands to a full inch along the top of the 2.0-megapixel webcam. On the sides is a glossy black belt, which corresponds to a black rectangular base. This reviewer, if given the choice, would opt for a matte black panel as it provides a better contrast to the display itself and also recedes into the background when watching movies.

In the bottom right, you’ll find five buttons to turn on the display and navigate the OSD. The blue LED lets you know what kind of video you are using: 1 for VGA, 2 for DVI and 3 for HDMI. The OSD menu lets you adjust the color, brightness, and position of the image. Outside the box and connected via DVI, we found that the image has a light pink tint that is easy to fix. There are also color presets for multimedia and games, as well as red and blue presets and user-defined presets. The installation of the games resulted in a balanced color level forF.E.A.R., but the multimedia settings were not helpful. This created an oversaturated picture with too much red. Normal or blue settings were the best DVD viewing options. You are also given the opportunity to change the screen ratio between 4: 3 and 16: 9 or fill the display.

The stand provides a very stable base that is not susceptible to fluctuations, and we like the look of it more than the standard base Dell Flying V found in its enterprise-oriented UltraSharp line. However, it does not offer height adjustment or the ability to rotate the display to portrait mode. The only physical adjustment you can do is tilt it back and forth. And it may be a more useful feature for a reviewer who installs and removes LCDs more than a typical consumer, but the stand just slams into the back of the display – no tools needed – for easy setup. A rectangular cutout in the stand handle helps hide video and power cables.

It offers HDCP support for displaying high-definition copyrighted content. As with most 22-inch displays, native 1680×150 resolution means you won’t be able to display 1080p video without scaling.

There are also audio and power connectors for the additional $ 35 Dell speaker panel that is attached at the bottom of the display. The feature is four USB 2.0 ports and a 2.0-megapixel webcam with dual microphones.

Performance
The Dell SP2208WFP has received outstanding performance in our DisplayMate metrics. Together with the Samsung 2232GW, it separated itself from the package. The cumulative SP2208WFP score of 90 in the DisplayMate test suite is the highest we’ve seen so far. There was no area of weakness. He scored high on all scores on the shade and color tests, as well as on the evenness and clarity tests.

He rated the contrast and brightness test well, although some screens were brighter. However, the Windows programs looked clear, the text legible to font size 7. Although the default image setting was passable, we switched to user-defined mode to reduce the red level to get rid of a light pink tint. on a blank, white Word document. The side-to-side viewing angle was more than acceptable, but when you move from the axis vertically, the screen darkens and colors shift rapidly. Our eyes are just above the top of the display and looking down at the center of the image, the image quality begins to deteriorate. Visitors to your desk will need to pull up a chair to share the screen; those who stand will see a bad image.

The movies and games looked fantastic, with rich, vibrant colors and smooth motion. The glossy screen coverage helped smooth out the edges, and a 2ms response time (gray to gray) meant there was no focus. We’ve found that preinstalled color media is not the right choice for watching movies, especially for red. UsingRoyal Tenenbaumsas our test drive, Ben Stiller’s red Adidas track looked almost radioactive. The pre-established normal color pattern presented a much more balanced picture.
