Is Alienware m15 R2 good for office

Laptops

The Good Alienware m15 R2 is a great gaming laptop with light and light content that can be customized to all the components you need to play the latest AAA games with the best graphics settings.

The Bad RAM cannot be increased after purchase. The laptop runs very hot at peak. Alienware management software needs work. And so, the m15 R2 is expensive.

The Bottom Line The M15 R2 Alienware delivers gaming performance in a slim, vivid design similar to the future of portable gaming. Just make sure you give it plenty of breathing space.

The M15 R2 Alienware is the company’s slimmest 15.6-inch laptop, measuring 18.3 mm (0.7 inches). By model giant Area-51m announced at CES 2019 and its legendary industrial design, this m15 also has one of the coolest designs I’ve seen this year. It cleverly crosses the line between smooth simplicity Razer’s Blade 15 and lightness Acer’s Triton 900 Predator or The mother monster of Asusa . It’s more of a coupe than a sedan, especially if you turn on all the lights.

The base price of the new m15 is $ 1,500, actually starting from where Dell’s G5 15 it starts to go out, and from there it goes up, depending on the processor, graphics, memory, memory, and the display you put into it. Alienware offers many options in its configurations, and you should choose carefully. The only thing that is not soldered to the system is its dual PCIe M.2 SSI drives. Dell also now offers both old and new m15 and the older m15 is more profitable currently.

You seem to pay a premium for the new design and cooling, the Tobii eye tracking (which is interesting enough if you get into the game flow), and a handful of other improvements that, to be honest, are well worth the money. Although you can skip at least one of the suggested components.

Hot, hot, hot

High performance gaming laptops as thin as the m15 R2 can get very hot. I know it’s shocking, but despite the Cryo-Tech v3.0 Alienware cooling system and its fireproof, Kevlar liquid crystal polymer fan blades – all 106 – and copper stops and copper-composite heat pipes, the system goes far beyond warm (and power source) too), when you push the components as hard as you can.

The Intel Core i7-9750H six-core processor got up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit (100 Celsius), which could slightly affect its performance compared to the others we tested with the larger chassis. Alienware allows the system to provide full performance when installed in BIOS performance mode. It can be turned off and it won’t get as hot as the system then puts tighter, more balanced constraints on the processor, an Alienware spokesman told me. Although the processor wanted it hot, even after 3 hours of play right at that time, the laptop never came in contact, and the palms remained cool.

Generally, you want to use this in a cool environment, outside your knees, and make sure that air can flow freely through the system. In this case, the slim design may cost you a bit of processor performance, forcing you to work with the highest level of options, Intel’s octa-core i9-9980HK may not be the best way to spend $ 450 extra.

Alienware’s Command Center software allows you to monitor the system as well as adjust the fan’s performance and speed, as well as control the lighting system, which includes a keyboard, an elongated Tron oval light around the rear openings and ports, and the Alienware logo on the lid and power button. The keyboard has key RGB lighting, and you can customize profiles for each installed game. I found the software rather unintuitive – I spent too much time hunting around the interface to figure out how to use it. The help menu also did not match its name.

More interesting to use is the Tobii eye tracking system for both games and non-gaming tasks. For example, it will be clear when you look away and automatically dim the screen, or it will automatically place the cursor where you are looking as soon as you touch the touchpad of the laptop.

For games, you can use its eye tracking tools to find out which areas of the screen you focus too much or not enough on, and improve response time. If you broadcast your games, it will allow you to show viewers where you are looking, and on Twitch you can simply switch between renderings such as heat maps, shadows and spotlights.

The keyboard and glass touchpad feel the kind of performance you’ll find on one of them Dell XPS Premium Laptops . The keyboard has a large amount of travel, given the shallow deck, and I have not experienced any problems with ghosts or tipping over. For gaming laptops, I still prefer the discrete touchpad keys for casual games that point to clicks and clicks when I don’t have a mouse, but the other one here is otherwise great.

The system’s speakers sound good too, but to really enjoy the gaming experience, you’ll want to wear headphones. There is no bass here, so things like explosions and soundtracks lack the bottom end. Like the m15 last year, the power outlets and the display, as well as the connector for the Alienware external graphics amplifier, are on the back. This at least makes it a little tidier when connecting to peripherals for a more comfortable desktop.

In addition to the rear ports there are three USB-A ports, a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port and a headphone jack on the sides.

Hertz so good

Alienware offers four display options for full-size m15 panels: 60 Hz, 144 Hz and 240 Hz and ultra-high resolution OLED with 60 Hz refresh rate. The latter seems to be the best fit for anyone planning to create content and games with m15. I checked out the 240Hz panel and if you’ve ever played on a 60Hz display, the high refresh rate here makes a big difference, especially for high-speed first-person shooters.

With components in my configuration, you can take advantage of the speed of upgrades in games like CS: GO, Fortnite and Overwatch. If these are key games for you, you may want to spend more on the faster panel. Otherwise, go to the 144 Hz panel for headers like Far Cry V, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Battlefield V, because you’re just not going to get high frame rates with this mobile GPU. The graphics performance is quite high with this RTX 2080 laptop, and the smoother refresh rate makes the experience more immersive. This is one of the things you don’t notice until you switch to a 60Hz display.

The best new gaming laptops, ranked

The battery life was decent, as it was for a gaming laptop that ran 4 hours, 25 minutes in our streaming video test. However, you can expect much less during games. However, you can go to the coffee shop and get a few hours of work between connected game sessions.

Overall, the m15 R2 Alienware is a great gaming laptop with light subtleties and lightness. If you care less about her appearance than about getting more for your money, consider getting one the older m15 instead.
